The emergence of boxing gloves
At present, we know that the emergence of the real "boxing gloves" can be traced back to 1743. In that year, the Englishman Jack Broughton invented the first pair of "boxing gloves" in the real sense and called them "mufflers" (thick gloves).
At that time, the outer layer of boxing gloves was wrapped in leather, and the interior was filled with fillings such as cashmere and horsehair, which was very close to the boxing gloves used in modern standing combat. Compared with the past, the biggest change of boxing gloves in this period is that the use of boxing gloves is to protect opponents, not to improve the power of fists.

However, this kind of boxing gloves has not been used in the competition for a long time, and the inventor Broughton only plans to use it in the boxing practice of ordinary students to prevent students from being injured. The close to skin weight of 2oz (two ounces) was controversial at the time, and it was clear that the boxers were not fully prepared to use it in the competition.
After more than 100 years, until 1865, the "Queensbury rules" designated by the Marquis of Queensbury began to gradually replace the old boxing rules. It was written by John Graham chambers in 1867 and officially applied to boxing in 1892.
The rule stipulates that in a boxing match, the competition time is 3 minutes and one round. If the boxer is still unable to get up 10 seconds after being knocked down, the referee will judge him as a failure. The rules also classify athletes according to their weight and require both boxers to wear "the best quality new boxing gloves".
The significance of this rule is to protect the boxers of both sides to the greatest extent in the competition. The first formal adoption of this rule was in the heavyweight confrontation between Jim Corbett and John L. Sullivan. Although the rule has been applied in many previous competitions, this competition is the largest and can attract the greatest public attention.

Since then, the "Queensbury rule" has gradually been introduced to the world, and has successfully made "boxing with boxers" a pillar in the field of modern standing combat. Naturally, the size of boxing gloves has increased from 2oz to more than 5oz. For example, the boxing match we know today generally uses boxing gloves with a minimum of 8 ounces (for competition) and a maximum of 16 ounces (for training).
In the "emerging fighting sport" of MMA, the size of the boxer is generally 4-6oz, which is different from the boxing gloves. It adopts the half finger design, and each finger can move freely, which is convenient for grasping and the actual combat of ground technology
